Wockhardt Foundation and the Sanjay Nirupam Helpline, run by MP Sanjay Nirupam, have started a mobile medical programme for poor patients in North Mumbai.
Under the programmes — Right to Vision (RTV) and Mobile Health Reach (MHR) — over 10 ophthalmologists from the foundation will cater to people from Malad to Dahisar once a week through three mobile medical units. “Government initiatives do not reach these areas. Our ophthalmologists will diagnose patients, distribute medicines and provide spectacles free of cost to patients in these areas,” said Satya Brahama, COO of Wockhardt foundation.
“While RTV will help diagnose preventable blindness, MHR caters to the various medical needs of the poor,” said Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO, Wockhardt Foundation. He added, “We have nine vans operating across the country and our efforts have benefited over one lakh patients.”
The initiative kicked off in Borivali. “The target is to treat five lakh patients in 52 weeks,” said Nirupam.
