Freedom is indicative of Free Will; of the right — God-given, Nature-blessed, Constitutionally-protected — to decide. It is the freedom of expression, the freedom of choice, the freedom to express that choice.
Are you free? Why do you think you’re free? Why do you think you’re not?
These are the thoughts that have gone into launching Redefine: Freedom, an online participatory project that is inviting people to send in all kinds of videos and images that capture your idea of freedom.
“Our expression of independence on August 15 is so redundant, so we came up with the idea of redefining it,” says Faiza Ahmad Khan, one of the people involved in this community project. Khan’s earlier projects include the much-loved documentary, Supermen of Malegaon. “It is a way for us to re-evaluate the notions of freedom and how those notions have changed.”
The clips will be put together into a film that will be uploaded online, sent to festivals and shared with community media units, through the network of media people involved in the project.
So, go ahead, start rolling.
You can send in your videos all of August to redefinefreedom@gmail.com. Limit your files to 30 seconds.
